ABOUT KNITS

How do I care for the knits?

Alpaca can last a lifetime. We recommend hand washing over dry cleaning to maintain the fiber's softness and characteristics. Hand wash in cold water, use mild detergent (do not bleach) and soak, rub or wring, rinse thoroughly in cold water, ease into shape. Dry flat, away from heat or sunlight. Do not tumble dry. Use cool iron. Store in a dry, protected place

Who makes the organic alpaca knits?

Oeuf's finest knits are made by hand from 100% alpaca and 100% pima cotton. The supple yarns are crafted by hand into individual knits in Bolivia by a co-operative of women. At Oeuf, we collaborate with community based organizations in developing countries to insure that our artisans earn a living wage and that their cultural traditions are respected, encouraged, and honored. We have made a personal commitment to improve the lives and communities of these artisans as we bring their unique talents to you. To see photos, click here.

Shades of alpaca color Oeuf's children's knitwear. From the earth to the store rack, each piece is natural by material and fair trade by production. Fair trade gives power to the men and women employedm creating self-esteem and strengthening communitites.

For nearly four years, Oeuf has worked with a group of knitters in Bolivia. The poorest country in South America, most of Bolivia's population survives through subsistence farming. For generations the women have been knitting to clothe their families and celebrate the beauty of a land rich in natural resources.

The twenty-five women who knit these children's sweaters, hats, mittens, and scarves work in self-managing groups, making decisions as a democracy. Each piece is hand knitted by one artisan, seeing the item through from yarn skein to finish. The women have used their own knowledge, knowledge passed down from their mothers and grandmothers, to construct the designs, fostering self-esteem with pride of piece.

Working with Oeuf has served to benefit not only these women but also their entire families. They have been able to provide school supplies for their children who no longer have to work to help support their families. They enjoy health and dental care and better nutrition. They no longer have to worry about the uncertainty of unemployment.

Over these years they have learned to budget for the calendar year and come to understand market trends, on the streets of both American cities and their own villages, where local children test the designs.

Oeuf knits are dyed with natural "metal-free" colors, produced in a manner that is environmentally friendly, and ecologically grown and cultivated.

ABOUT FURNITURE

What finishes are available?

The Oeuf Crib and Toddler Bed are offered in two finish combinations. Warm-white lacquer sides with a natural solid birch base or a walnut stained birch base. The 3 Drawer Dresser has matching warm-white lacquer finish. The Changing Station is available in the same natural or walnut stained solid birch as the crib/toddler bed base.

Are your cribs available with drop sides?

No. Cribs with fixed-sides are inherently sturdier, more stable, and safer than cribs with drop-side. We believe the benefit of safety outweighs the false perception of convenience.

Is it difficult to reach my baby or change the sheets without a drop side?

No. We designed our crib with a lower profile than typical cribs. An overall height of 36" (compared to the typical 42”-44” high) and three adjustable mattress heights make for easy access without the hazards of hardware failure.

Yes. Our pieces meet or exceed all voluntary and mandatory safety standards and are tested by Intertek (an independent testing lab) to ensure compliance. We are also members of JPMA (Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association).

Dressers are shipped assembled but the legs must be attached. This is done by screwing the legs onto a threaded rod on the bottom of the dresser. If you can close a jar of jam, you can apply the legs.

Is the Changing Station safe to use while my child is in the crib?

Yes. The Oeuf Changing Station securely attaches to the crib to prevent it from falling and injuring your child.

Is the changing pad included with the changing station?
